McGehee is in southeastern Arkansas, not far from the Mississippi River and maybe an hour’s drive from the Louisiana line. With around 4,500 residents as of the 2000 census it was the second-largest city in Desha County after Dumas (over 5,000). The county seat is in Arkansas City (fewer than 600).
