After all, it wasn’t Newt Gingrich who shut it down in 1995, it was Bill Clinton and the unions.
Westmoreland said his caucus – presuming it takes control of the House come November – aims to pass spending bills that Obama is likely to veto. He predicted Republicans would not be able to override such a veto, creating a standoff that could cause Congress to grind to a halt.
“If the government shuts down, we want you with us,” he said.
Smarmy, Disingenuous White House Press Release
Emphasis added. All President Fido has to do, to prevent a government shutdown, is NOT VETO THE SPENDING BILLS.
He doesn’t even have to sign them — they can become law without his signature. Vetoing requires effort, while not vetoing does not.
So, who’s going to shut down the government? Hmm?

Vigilante Economic Growth

The original meaning of “vigilante justice” was when somebody tracked down a criminal and punished him — often lethally — without benefit of trial.
Then liberals redefined “vigilante justice” to mean any act of self-defense during the commission of a crime, especially with deadly force.
It wouldn’t surprise me if somebody somewhere referred to arsonists targeting abandoned buildings as conducting “vigilante urban renewal.”
Taking the logic further, I can finally see why liberals are so upset about the Tea Party rallies, which they would regard as “vigilante politics.”
And the Obama Administration would almost certainly condemn private entrepreneurs who create jobs without dipping at the public trough, for “vigilante economic growth.”

The link on DrudgeReport.com looks like this:
Napolitano Defends Spill Response: Gov’t has ‘limited capability and expertise’…
Unfortunately the linked article doesn’t include her saying any such thing. Which is a shame, because such an admission not only undermines the case for most of her boss’ political agenda, it echoes most of the case for small-government conservatism.
If she did say it, it’s a shame the WSJ has excised it.
