Today the high temperature at The Freehold was 54°F.
At one second after midnight, as in almost 18 hours ago. And it has been dropping almost ever since, except when the sun came out and had us slightly above freezing for a bit in the afternoon. Now it’s a hair under 19°F and still dropping.
We’re not expected to get down to single digits overnight…
In the morning I have to drive the Ford back to where we got it so they can install Lojack. After it has sat outside all night.
If it were an 18-year-old Bronco it might not crank at all. If it were my previous Bronco, now 33 years old, it would probably meet me at the door with a restraining order.
But of course we mustn’t conclude from the winter weather that there’s no catastrophic anthropogenic climate change going on out there. Only summer weather tells us anything about what’s happening to the planet and why.
Unless it’s an Antarctic summer that leaves climate researchers trapped in sea ice on two separate ships. Then obviously that doesn’t tell us anything about what’s happening to the planet either.
Update, after 10:30 p.m.: It’s now 13°F, and the latest forecast I’ve seen says we’ll hit 9°F before it starts getting warmer.
